CAS DIRECTOR APPOINTED TO THE UNITED NATIONS

ICA would like to extend hearty congratulations to Jeremy Weinstein, Director of the Center for African Studies, Associate Professor of Political Science, and Senior Fellow at the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies, who has been appointed Chief of Staff to U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, Samantha Power.

“This represents an extraordinary opportunity for me to help shape U.S. foreign policy, the work of the United Nations, especially in Africa, and the global development agenda post-2015,” Weinstein said in his announcement.

Weinstein served from 2007-8 and 2011-13 as Director of the Center for African Studies where he made tremendous contributions to the program.  Though CAS will be losing a terrific director, in his place ICA welcomes Associate Professor of History Sean Hanretta as the incoming Ford Dorsey Director of African Studies.

“Sean is beloved by our undergraduates and our graduate students, and he is a perfect pick to lead the Center,” said Weinstein.
