Sylvia Arechiga

Administrative Associate, Stanford Global Studies

Sylvia Arechiga is originally from Los Angeles, CA. She earned a bachelor's degree in political science, international affairs, and Spanish language and culture from UC Riverside in 2020. As an undergraduate, she volunteered abroad with the Mexican organization DIF in Apozol, Zacatecas, which focused on meeting the needs of social assistance to contribute to the development of Mexican families. This experience fostered a better understanding of the institutions and communities abroad and led to Sylvia’s desire to continue exploring and traveling to other states and countries to gain a more global perspective.

Sylvia enjoys traveling and capturing scenic photographs and videos of each new destination she visits and explores. As of now, she has only traveled in a few states within the U.S. including California, Arizona, Nevada, and New York. In Mexico, Sylvia travels most frequently to Sonora where her maternal extended side of the family resides and where she spends most of the winter holidays. Within Mexico, Sylvia has also traveled to states like Jalisco, Zacatecas, Aguascalientes, Guanajuato, and Sinaloa. In the future, Sylvia hopes to travel more and visit other countries to explore the culture, food, and activities locals enjoy.
