One of my most rewarding experiences during my time at Carnegie Endowment for International Peace in Washington, D.C. was creating a primer on the origin of the Taliban and its views concerning women. This work was truly fascinating and allowed me to gain understanding of the complex overlays of ideologies that underpin the Taliban’s worldview, and how it has little grounding in traditional Afghan culture. In addition, through this internship, I was able to engage with a renowned professor and researcher of issues in the Middle East and better understand what it means to pursue research professionally. It was a truly memorable and enriching experience for me.
