In an effort to advocate for the use of more data, data visualizations, and graphics in globalizing the curriculum, Global Educators Network Board Member Don Uy-Barreta presented at the University of Minnesota's Global Studies Virtual Symposium on April 28, 2023, where he shared select free online resources he incorporates into his economic courses. As our world is collecting and using more and more data, it is imperative that our students understand how to leverage these data to remain current in their field and also to foster a global mindset. Some of the free resources he mentioned include:

  • Our World in Data - shows historical data and compares data from other countries to see trends, problems, and potential solutions
  • Population Pyramid - shows demographic changes and trends
  • Index of Economic Freedom - compares and contrasts different institutional structures across various countries
  • Debt Clock - shows debt from the U.S. and other countries
  • Gap Minder - shows how people live in various countries depending on region, income, and other metrics
