Denise Chu receives the Dean's Award of Merit from Richard Saller, the Vernon R. and Lysbeth Warren Anderson Dean of the School of Humanities and Sciences....

Please join us in congratulating Denise Chu, Program Manager of the Stanford Global Studies Internship Program, who is a recipient of this year's Dean’s Award of Merit!

Chu has been the intrepid manager of the Global Studies Internship Program (GSIP) for the past six years. Prior to working with SGS, Chu worked at the School of Engineering where she inaugurated their internship program and sought ways to explore overseas opportunities for engineering students.

“Denise is a wonderful combination of administrator, student mentor, networker extraordinaire, and colleague,” wrote SGS Faculty Director Jeremy M. Weinstein and Executive Director Kate Kuhns in a joint letter. “We congratulate her for receiving the prestigious Dean’s Award of Merit; she is one of the best administrators with whom we have had the privilege of working.”

Through her hard work and commitment to providing engaging, intellectual opportunities for students, Chu has expanded the internship program into other parts of the globe and increased student enrollment. She is also a mentor to students, many of whom submitted letters in support of her nomination.

The Dean’s Award of Merit originated in 1999 in an effort to acknowledge the important role staff play in the success of the School of Humanities & Sciences and the university as a whole. The award is given to staff who have made significant contributions during the previous calendar year, fostered productivity and creativity, and demonstrated stellar performance, among other criteria.

Chu is one of four recipients of this year's award.
