Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina

Post-Conflict Research Centre

Many thanks for your support, which allowed me to have an experience of a lifetime. I am a rising junior studying classics and international relations and had the opportunity through Stanford Global Studies to intern at the Post-Conflict Research Centre in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

For eight weeks, I contributed to the organization's mission through research on genocide denialism and publicizing the deeds of war criminals in order to combat such denialism in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Beyond research, I was also able to gain an intimate understanding of the genocide in Bosnia and its effects on the post-conflict society there. A highlight was visiting Srebrenica, the main site of the genocide, where I met with survivors, political figures, and civil society leaders while also attending the annual commemoration of the genocide.

I made strides as well in my personal and professional development. While in Bosnia and Herzegovina, I gained lifelong friendships and connections that will support me during a career in human rights abroad, an aim that has been reaffirmed by this internship. Again, my deepest thanks for making this opportunity possible.
