Speaker:

The Tlatalolco Massacre of October 02, 1968 marked a pivotal moment in Mexico's Dirty War, as well as in national and international student movements, highlighting the decade's protest and activist culture. This two-part event will commemorate the occurrences by screening the 2013 film Tlatelolco, verano del 68 (on October 2nd) followed by a dinner and panel discussion (on October 9th). The film follows the lives of two Mexican teenagers, Felix (Christian Vazquez) and Ana Maria (Cassandra Ciangherotti), whose unlikely love contrasts their different social statutes. This fictional account is set amidst Mexico's historic 1968 protests and gives insight into how the nation's repressive government impacted its social and political climate. While the romantic storyline is enticing, the increasing repression of student movements, violence, and forced disappearance depicted in the film are its true protagonists.

Light dinner provided for attendees
