Student spotlight: Chandler Mores

Chandler Mores graduates next weekend with a degree in international relations & and a minor in Spanish. She chose these areas of study because of her love for the Spanish language, and a deep interest in learning more about how the world around her works and how people interact with one another.

“The international relations program has shaped my understanding of the world in so many ways,” Chandler says. “I am well-versed on international policies and doctrines, as well as potential ways to alleviate conflicts in the future. I would like to say that I am a more globally-oriented citizen, and I am much more aware of the political and social aspects of the world.”

For her study abroad requirement, Chandler had an amazing experience studying in Madrid, Spain. One of the highlights of the experience, she says, was her host family: “I still keep in contact with them today! Studying abroad helped me become more independent and knowledgeable about the cultures that exist in our world.”

Her favorite class at Stanford has been Ethics and Politics of Public Service. “I am very involved at the Haas Center, so taking a class where I could holistically reflect about my work, my intentions, my interactions with the community in which I work, and my dedication was mind-opening and very informative,” she says. Through the Haas Center, Chandler served as an Education Partnerships Fellow, working as a TA and tutor leader for a program called Preschool Counts.

During her time at Stanford, Chandler was involved in a number of activities. She was an ASSU Executive Fellow her freshman year, and a member of Frosh Council, Sophomore Class Cabinet, Junior Class Cabinet, and the Senior Class Cabinet. She also participated in Stanford Women in Politics, Dance Marathon, and served as an officer in her sorority, Kappa Kappa Gamma, for three years. Her sophomore year, she helped establish the Fearless Conference, which facilitated conversations surrounding domestic and relationship abuse and sexual violence.

“As I reflect on my time at Stanford, I am most proud of the friendships that I have made," she says. "Whenever someone asks me about my favorite part of Stanford, I always tell them that it is the people that make this university so great. I have made the most memorable friendships in these past 4 years, and I am so lucky Stanford has given me them.”

Chandler hopes to become a corporate attorney, and after graduation, she plans to attend the University of Iowa College of Law. “The International Relations program will help me succeed in law school, because the staff and faculty have taught me how to succinctly write and think in ways I've never thought of before, and they have taught me to not be afraid to ask questions.”
