Franco Errico receives the 2019 Dean's Award of Merit

Stanford Global Studies congratulates Iranian Studies Program Coordinator Franco Errico, who is the recipient of the 2019 Dean’s Award of Merit in the spirit category.

Errico joined Iranian Studies in 2015, and he helps organize dozens of events each year, including concerts, multi-day performances, and academic conferences, which draw thousands of people to campus.

Letters written in support of Errico by faculty, staff, and students from across SGS’s 14 centers and programs touched on his stellar spirit, positive attitude, eagerness to help others, and consistent efforts to go above and beyond the call of duty.

“Franco is the epitome of what a Stanford staff member and colleague should be,” wrote SGS Faculty Director Jeremy M. Weinstein and Executive Director Kate Kuhns in a joint letter.

“Mr. Errico has been remarkably consistent in his desire to help others, his ability to work amicably and cooperatively with different constituencies, and his endlessly patient ways. He always goes the extra step, or mile, to help those he works with,” wrote Iranian Studies Faculty Director Abbas Milani.

“Every year he has surprised us by outdoing himself. He has become an indispensable part of the team,” said Roma Parhad, program manager of Iranian Studies. “His willingness to help others really knows no bounds.”

The Dean’s Award of Merit originated in 1999 in an effort to acknowledge the important role staff play in the success of the School of Humanities & Sciences and the university as a whole. Nominees in the spirit category demonstrate consistent dedication, initiative, motivation, positive attitude, and customer service to those they support and with whom they interact.

“Franco’s level of professionalism, dedication, and intelligence are rare individually; in concert they are truly exceptional,” wrote John Groschwitz, the associate director of the Center for East Asian Studies.

Errico is one of three recipients of this year’s award.
