Since December 2019, there has been an emerging public health concern regarding an outbreak of respiratory illness caused by a new strain of coronavirus, 2019 Novel Coronavirus, which was first identified in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a Level 3 Warningto avoid all nonessential travel to China. Additionally, the U.S. Department of State has elevated its travel advisory for China to Level 3: Reconsider Travel. Stanford is concurring with CDC recommendations that travelers avoid all non-critical travel to China.

In the event that we are not able to sponsor Global Studies internships in China this summer, students are advised to consider applying to positions outside of China. Students who have already applied to positions in China are now eligible to apply to other positions outside if China, even if they have already applied to two positions.

The safety and wellbeing of our students are our top priorities, and Stanford University is actively monitoring the developing situation with respect to the spread of disease and potential impacts to university functions. Please visit this pageto see a list of frequently asked questions about Stanford’s response to, and prevention of, 2019 Novel Coronavirus on campus.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email GlobalInternships@stanford.edu

The Stanford Global Studies Internship Program supports students for self-arranged internships at locations in East and Southeast Asia that comply with the University's International Travel Policy: "When it comes to undergraduate students, Stanford-sponsored or Stanford-organized trips are prohibited to countries or regions and locations within a country where the U.S. Department of State has issued an official Travel Advisory of Level 4 (“Do Not Travel”) or Level 3 (“Reconsider Travel”) for either the country destination, or for the particular region or location of intended travel within the country destination, or where there is other reliable information of significant health or safety risks. No university funds or resources may be used, or university sponsorship provided, in support of travel to these locations."

This Program is open to Stanford students with undergraduate status in all majors and M.A. students in East Asian Studies.

Your statement should include the purpose of your internship, host organization name, website, internship address, contact person email and phone number, as well as the job content and an itemized budget.
