Since December 2019, there has been an emerging public health concern regarding an outbreak of respiratory illness caused by a new strain of coronavirus, 2019 Novel Coronavirus, which was first identified in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a Level 3 Warningto avoid all nonessential travel to China. Additionally, the U.S. Department of State has elevated its travel advisory for China to Level 3: Reconsider Travel. Stanford is concurring with CDC recommendations that travelers avoid all non-critical travel to China.

In the event that we are not able to sponsor Global Studies internships in China this summer, students are advised to consider applying to positions outside of China. Students who have already applied to positions in China are now eligible to apply to other positions outside if China, even if they have already applied to two positions.

Department  of Business Development (BD)

This position is designed for those who are interested to understand the overall offline retail business. In close partnership with BD department, this position will have exposure to multiple functions in the company to support the brand store opening and operation during internship. This person may help BD team with internal and external communications, support projects and prepare required documents.

Department of Brand Marketing

The Marketing Intern will be responsible for assisting the marketing department, mainly in celebrity shooting related issues.

Department of communicationThis role would be working under the direction of our Corporate Communications manager and be involved in a wide variety of projects and communications activities – from exploring how we can engage our employees as company ambassadors via social media to helping manage employee town halls where leaders and teams provide key updates on our business to writing messages and stories for both external and internal communications.

This person would also support our efforts to create clearer processes and enhance our foundational infrastructure for communications in partnership with our field communications team members who support the brands directly. They will work with a variety of functional leaders from Marketing & PR to Government Affairs, Human Resources and Store Operations.

This position is designed for those who are desired to understand business from IT perspective. In close partnership with IT department, this position will gain a bird’s eye view of IT department’s daily work in a growing retail company and develop basic in-house technical and communication skills during internship. This person may help IT team with project or support work related tasks.

Work description:  

Department of Business Development

  • Support to the BD team members (e.g. meeting/project/training supporting)
  • Support internal process communication and coordination
  • Support external communication and consolidation
  • Internal documents preparation

Department of Brand Marketing

  • Assist 2020 celebrity shooting, including sample management, cross function communication, and in-store signage preparation.
  • Planning, coordination and execution of in-store marketing from window & signage briefing, copy generation, proof-reading the signage layout.
  • Work with external agencies for video editing for campaigns
  • Contribute to marketing plans
  • Other related duties as assigned by supervisor

Department of Communication

  • Support planning and execution of employee engagement activities such as town halls and volunteering and CSR projects
  • Contribute to message development and prep for media interviews and external speaking opportunities.
  • Create compelling content for distribution through diverse channels, including social, to tell stories about our brands and company in Greater China and share milestones and progress, both externally and internally within Gap Inc.
  • Support the calendar tracking process for cross-brand communications planning
  • Present to local and global Leadership Team when needed

Department of Financial Planning & Analysis

  • Partner closely with other team members in China FP&A and Field Finance to analyze and hindsight HQ and store performance
  • Partner cross-functionally to forecast/budget HQ and Store expenses
  • Partner with US CSSC teams to forecast/budget the cost of sales spread lines in the P&L
  • Create reports and support ad-hoc requests as needed

Department of Human Resources and Recruiting Team

  • Develop recruiting sources, recruitment selection and placement of individuals for available positions. Identify and track candidates through hiring process and support daily recruitment process
  • Assist with Gap International Internship Program on internal communication, project evaluation, intern engagements, etc.
  • Work together with Communication team and external vendor on developing Recruiting WeChat in employer branding and recruiting optimization
  • Other duties as assigned

Department of Information Technology

  • Support to the IT team members (e.g. training/meeting/events supporting)

Qualifications:

Department of Business Development

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled freshmen, sophomores, juniors, seniors, and coterms who are undergraduates in all majors, including undeclared. Coterm students must still have undergraduate status. MA students in the Center for East Asian Studies are also eligible to apply.
  • Applicants must be current Stanford students during the internship period. Seniors must postpone graduation paperwork until the internship ends, but may participate in commencement. For summer graduation requirements, including details regarding enrollment requirements and information about participation in the June commencement ceremonies, students should contact their major department's student services office and Registrar's Office for graduation quarter petition.
  • Preferably, before beginning their internships, selected candidates should have taken at least one course regarding the internship region. The course can be taken in the spring quarter.
