Emily Moeller with a koala
Art Gallery of New South Wales

I have been working on the 3D Design team at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, and it has been an incredible learning experience. It is so amazing to work at the art gallery every day, from walking in the city in the morning to eating lunch on the pier with a view of the Sydney Opera House. I am incredibly grateful for the chance to represent Stanford and to contribute to meaningful projects. I have learned so much about the workings of an art gallery and got to help design the blockbuster Cao Fei exhibition alongside inspiring designers. As someone with a background more in engineering than art, this experience was great for learning about the artistic side of design, while also practicing engineering skills such as CAD and structural analysis. This opportunity has not only allowed me to grow academically but also personally, as I navigated a new environment and culture. I lived in a share house with other international students, so I learned about their cultures too. Taking the train to work every morning and eating all of the city's great food made me feel like a local. On the weekends, I got to snorkel in the Great Barrier Reef, watch dolphins in Jervis Bay, and climb the Sydney Harbour Bridge. The attached image captures the moment when I got to pet a koala at a sanctuary in Brisbane. Koalas are incredibly soft and adorable. As I look forward to the future, I am excited to apply the knowledge and experiences I have gained in my studies and beyond.
