In this presentation ("The Report, or, Whatever Happened to Third World Feminist Theory?"), Durba Mitra will examine the rise of the policy report, specifically the rise of the status of women report, from the 1960s until today. The presentation will be followed by remarks from Professor Sharika Thiranagama before closing with Q-and-A with attendees.

Durba Mitra is the Richard B. Wolf Associate Professor of Women, Gender, and Sexuality at Harvard University. Mitra works at the intersection of feminist and queer studies. Mitra’s book, Indian Sex Life: Sexuality and the Colonial Origins of Modern Social Thought (Princeton University Press, 2020), demonstrates how ideas of deviant female sexuality became foundational to modern social thought. Mitra’s current project explores the history of Third World feminist thought and South-South solidarity networks.

This event is sponsored by Stanford Global Studies, through the Global Research workshop series "Law and Literature in the Global South," which aims to broaden the horizons of the Law and Humanities critical paradigm. It is co-sponsored by Stanford's Center for South Asia.
