Had we been faced with a map of today's Europe only a few years ago, it would probably have looked like dystopian science-fiction. When we look at Europe today, we can see a continent that is at the highest stage of disintegration. What seemed like science-fiction now is turning into dystopian reality: new walls and borders all across Europe; refugees fleeing wars; fascist groups entering parliament in Germany and Austria; authoritarian regimes on the rise from Poland to Hungary; deepening economic crisis and further disintegration – Brexit and Catalonia. What is the origin of Europe's current crisis, what are the consequences and possible outcomes -- and why is Europe worth saving from itself? In his lecture, Srećko Horvat will lead us through a roller-coaster ride through Europe's - and our common - possible future.

Srećko Horvat is a philosopher and political activist from Croatia without stable address or academic affiliation, described by Der Freitag as “one of the most exciting voices of his generation”. He published more than 10 books translated into more than 15 languages, most recently Subversion! (Zero books, 2017), The Radicality of Love (Polity, 2015) and together with Slavoj Žižek What Does Europe Want? (Columbia University Press, 2014). His articles are regularly published by The Guardian, New York Times, Spiegel, Al Jazeera and other leading newspaper. In 2016 he was the presenter of Al Jazeera’s documentary. He is one of the founders and figureheads of the Democracy in Europe Movement 2025.
