Educators Inquiry Meetup: Supporting Jewish colleagues and students and combating antisemitism on community college campuses

Inquiry Question: How can we as community college educators understand and support our Jewish colleagues and students amidst the rise in antisemitism?
As an Ashkenazi Jew growing up in Southern California, Steve Lipman, professor of communication studies at Mission College, witnessed and experienced antisemitism and “otherness” in many forms. In conversation with GEN Executive Board Member Marina Broeder, Lipman will discuss his views on the moral, intellectual, and cultural depth of Judaism and the reasons he hid his Jewish identity for most of his life until the unprecedented rise of antisemitism following the Israel-Hamas war. Lipman and Broeder will also discuss ways educators on community college campuses can better support Jewish colleagues and students and foster productive, respectful dialogue around ongoing geopolitical conflicts.
This event is part of a series of Educators Inquiry Meetups organized by the Global Educators Network that will explore how community college educators can create identity-safe classrooms and encourage meaningful dialogue amidst ongoing international conflicts.
