Şükrü Hanioğlu is Professor of Near Eastern Studies and Garrett Professor in Foreign Affairs at Princeton University. He earned his PhD from Istanbul University, and he has studied the evolution of the CUP (Committee of Union and Progress) from its foundation to the Young Turk revolution, using not only the Turkish archives but also those throughout Europe – Swiss, German, Greek, Albanian, and British, among others.
