Joel Konopo, John S. Knight Journalism Fellow, Stanford University. Investigative journalist, co-founder of INK Centre for Investigative Journalism in Botswana.

Joel Konopo is an investigative journalist and co-founder of INK Centre for Investigative Journalism, a vibrant non-profit newsroom in Botswana. He was among a team of journalists who worked on Panama Papers exposing offshore business dealings of the country’s top judge. His investigation on Botswana former President Ian Khama’s secret vacation home earned him accolades due to the innovative nature of his reporting. He is former editor of Botswana Guardian newspaper and has a strong interest in investigating corruption by influential corporate leaders and in the financial services industry. His work has been published in dozens of major newspapers in Africa. He is currently at Stanford University as a John S. Knight Journalism Fellow exploring ways in which journalists and computer scientists can use technology to promote transparency in political funding.
