EPIC Community College Faculty Fellowship Program

Open to faculty (adjunct and full-time) and academic staff from any community college.

Fellowship Period: August 2024 - May 2025

The Education Partnership for Internationalizing Curriculum (EPIC) Community College Faculty Fellowship program brings together a cohort of community college faculty and academic staff from various disciplines (humanities, social sciences, mathematics, hard sciences, international programs, etc.) to work collaboratively with Stanford staff for one academic year (August-May) on self-designed projects aimed at internationalizing core curricula and developing global competencies among community college students. Beginning with a three-day summer intensive workshop at Stanford University, fellows will then meet for real-time online seminars each month during which they will explore cutting-edge research in global studies with Stanford faculty and staff and develop innovative curricular materials and extra-academic programs to implement in their classrooms and at their home campuses. The fellowship will culminate at an end-of-year symposium at Stanford University that brings together faculty and administrators from community colleges and four-year universities committed to fostering global studies on their campuses.

Since 2010, Stanford Global Studies has partnered with community colleges through innovative projects such as the Stanford Human Rights Education Initiative (SHREI) and the Education Partnership for Internationalizing Curriculum (EPIC) to bring together faculty and administrators committed to developing global and international studies. Fellows will join a growing network of EPIC alumni from across the state who are developing innovative programs to internationalize curricula.

Application & Program Details

Scope of Participation

  • Fellows attend a three-day intensive workshop at Stanford on August 7-9, 2024.  
  • Fellows participate in monthly online seminars to work collaboratively on their projects with their cohort and Stanford staff. Sessions also include presentations by Stanford faculty and academic discussions based on readings of the latest trends in global studies (September 2024 - April 2025).
  • Fellows develop one of the following types of projects:
  1. Curricular Unit or Extra-Academic Program Development. Fellows work with the Stanford Program on International and Cross-Cultural Education to develop innovative curricular materials and extra-academic programs to implement in their classrooms and at their home campuses.
  2. Digital Learning Resources. Fellows will be introduced to a wide range of digital learning resources at Stanford (Rumsey Map Center, Stanford Libraries, CESTA) and the various projects developed within Stanford’s Poetic Media Lab. Fellows will receive customized support on the digital humanities aspect of their projects and be introduced to tools that address their projects’ needs, such as StoryMaps, Project Mirador, and Open Education initiatives. Additionally, specialists in learning resources (e.g., museum curators, digital mapping technologists, and pedagogues) from Stanford and other institutions will be invited on an on-demand basis to guide fellows on their projects.
  • Fellows present their project outcomes and/or classroom experience winter/spring of the fellowship year and again at an end-of year symposium, open to all U.S. community and four-year college faculty, administrators, deans, and academic counselors (May 2025).

Fellowship Terms

  • The fellowship period is August 2024 - May 2025.  
  • The fellowship term includes access to Stanford library resources. 
  • Meals and lodging will be provided for the summer intensive workshop and end-of-year symposium, as well as travel expenses up to $500 for each.

Fellow Selection Process

  • Applicants submit an online application form including a CV and Project Proposal outlining their proposed project and a timeline for goals (two pages double-spaced).
  • In some cases, SGS  will conduct an additional interview via phone or Skype. If an interview is required, applicants will be contacted with more details. 
  • All applicants who are selected will receive a fellowship offer pending the receipt and review of a letter of support from the division head or dean of their home institution. If you have already secured a letter of support, please upload it in the online application form.
  • Application deadline is April 1, 2024, 11:59 p.m. (Pacific). Anticipated notification of decision: May 2024.
